Windows 10: I have Windows 11, scan app not working

I downloaded the scan app and it worked fine for 9 months with my Epson all in one printer/fax/scanner. Now it doesn't find the scanner, although the fax and printer work fine. It tells me "To scan, connect the scanner", but it IS connected. I think this started after a Windows update. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, refreshed and reset. Under printers and scanners the Epson is shown connected. Spent an hour on the phone with Epson, the scanner is fine.

Windows 11 Scan App not opening

I have a problem where the scan app doesn't open. When I click on the app, I get the splash screen with the big scanner icon and then after a minute or two, the program then closes.

I have tried the recommended troubleshooting steps already which include going into Settings/Installed Apps and Advanced settings in the Scan App. This includes trying Repair, Reset and Uninstall. I have also tried uninstalling, rebooting my computer and then reinstalling the Scan app. Unfortunately, none of these have worked.

Scan App and Windows Version details below.

Edition Windows 11 Home

Version 23H2

Installed on ‎22/‎09/‎2022

OS build 22631.2861

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22681.1000.0

Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

Run the App troubleshooter to fix issues that may prevent app from working properly.

Step 2: Check for the update



Go to Windows Store and check any updates
available for the Scan App. If available, install the updates and see if the app work as expected.

Scan and Fax not working in Windows 10

This issue might occur if printer driver is corrupt.

To assist you better, please provide us the information below:

• What is the make and model of the computer?
• Are you getting any error message?
• When you say that "scan and fax not working", how exactly are you trying to scan and fax on Windows 10?

If you have tried to use Windows Scan and Fax app, then try to access it and check if you are able to scan documents.

1. Click on Search bar.

2. The type "Windows Fax and Scan" without the quotes in the search bar and click on it.

3. Try to scan the copies of documents.
