Windows 10: I have Windows.old but i cannot rollback to Windows 7.

There are actually a few issues with this. I have been using a HP laptop that has recently been factory reset. I want to make this laptop Windows 7 as it is currently Windows 10. It does have the Windows.old file, but when I go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery, I do not get the option to go back to an earlier version. I have tried to download Windows 7's ISO files, but I needed a product key. I looked in the Properties section of This PC to see mine though it is only 20 characters and not 25. I used an application to find my original product key which was 25 characters, but when I tried to verify it, it said that the product key was invalid. I was not given a DVD with my laptop either.


Why am I unable to go back to Windows 7? Is there a way that I can still rollback at this point?

Windows 8 rollback to 7 or XP

I've stepped back to 7 from 8 there are more and better drivers for 7 .and its close enough to 7 in use she'd like it

From a quick glance at the parts, I'd say you have a decent chance of running Windows XP - that is, if you really want to. All the Windows 7 and "fixed" Windows 8 suggestions are better course to pursue.
