Windows 10: I installed the Windows Pro Edition but Purchased the Home License

I installed the Windows Pro Edition but purchased the Home License due to cost. When I tried to changed the key I get the error "The product key you entered didn't work. Check the product key and try again, or enter a different one. 0xc004f050. I figured it would just downgrade me to home edition if it worked. Do I have to purchase the PRO license to activate? If so, do I have to reinstall Windows using Home edition to use this key? Please advice.~ Tasha"

Windows 10 pro edition - License expires soon warning

Windows 10 Activation reports your license will soon expire.

This can happen for a number of reasons:

• You copied a Windows 10 Pro off the Internet (usually a volume license - organization - key) and changed on a Windows 10 Home installation. Windows 10 Pro is not free.
  If this is what you did, you will need to reinstall the previous edition or version you were running. You inadvertently installed the wrong edition.
  • The copy of Windows 10 you download and upgrade from will correspond with the edition of Windows you have installed, if it does not, this is why you might be experiencing problems activating:

• Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Windows 8.0 Core, Windows 8.1 Core
  will install Windows 10 Home
  

• Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8.0 Pro, Windows 8.1 Pro
  will install Windows 10 Pro

To find out if you have the right edition installed:

Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Activation > Edition.

If the edition of Windows 10 installed does not correspond with the edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8 you were previously running, then you need to reinstall the right edition.

Just purchased Windows 10 home edition and downloaded but found I need Windows 10 Pro edition, how to exchange?

The only thing you have purchased is the Windows Product/License Key, not the Operating System itself.

You can download the Windows 10 Pro from this link

Just select Windows 10 and it would download the Windows Creation Media Tool.

Once downloaded, follow through the on-screen instructions and select Windows 10 Pro from the list it would show you.

The link also has instructions on how to use the Windows Creation Media Tool.

As for the product/license key, I would suggest to contact Microsoft Answer Desk so that they can give you options on how you can get a Windows 10 Pro product/license key.

Changing from oem windows 10 pro edition to windows 10 education pro Edition

Because your computer wasn't purchased with a k-12 academic licenses through OEM partners, it cannot be turned into a Pro Education edition at no cost. Just like you said, you can manually change it, to strip down certain features to make it like the Pro Education edition (Not Education edition, but Pro Education, they are two different things). This is the way to do it without cost.

By disabling the features above, will that meet the needs? If not, then you will need to contact an academic partner to get an education license.
