  2. Fresh Install of Win 10 without Serial Key?

Looking to reformat a laptops HDD, and then reinstall Win 10 fresh. The problem is it came pre-installed with Win 8 and I did the free upgrade to Win 10. How exactly would I re-format the HDD, reinstall Win 10 and ensure it reactivates properly? I don't see a Win 8 serial key anywhere in the contents of the box.

Can't install Win 8.1... but XP and Win7 Ult OK

Doing a retro build for a friend with some leftover components:
    • Abit AG8 Mobo
    • Intel 630 CPU (Prescott)
    • 4GB DDR
    • 1TB WD Blue HDD - AHCI
    • SATA DVD
    • 9250 PCI (not PCIe) video card
Started with the inability to install anything. Turned out the CPU cooler was loose and also the hard drive needed to be partitioned and fully formatted on another machine.

So far, I started with XP pro, then installed Win7 Ultimate with no problems.

Win 8.1 OEM install disc will boot, there's the ridiculous blue Win 8 logo for about 20 seconds, then some text flashes on the top of the screen, but it's so quick and blinks in and out for about 2 seconds. So fast that I can't read it. Then the PC reboots, and it repeats.

    Any ideas?

No format option for new Vista install?

After the disk is in and it does it's thing for a while, you will get a screen with your HDD's listed on it. Select the HDD that you want to install Vista on and format it. Then continue to install Vista on that HDD.
