I get the message WD Drive Manager A required resource is unavailableI noticed that I cannot open attachments with mp4, etc... open programs because " I don't have enough memory" etc... and I know I have enough memory

Well, I'm sorry to hear that it's a WD My Passport that failed on you, @tomhenry ! *Frown
I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. WD Elements external drive

• Do you get any error message?
• How are you connecting your External Drive to your computer?

I suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by following the steps provided below:

• Type “Troubleshooting” in search box and press Enter.
• Click on “View all” on the top left pane.
• Click on "Hardware and Devices" from the list and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.

windows 10 and external drive wd 1078

To assist you better, I like to know; are you able to view WD 1078 external drive, on the device manager?

To check in Device Manager, follow the below steps.

1) Press Windows key + x and select Device Manager.

2) Expand Disk Drive and check, if the Drive is there or not.

If the drive is listed under Device manager, I would suggest you to run hardware and device troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps.

a. Type troubleshooting in the
Search area on the taskbar. b. Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the Search box and hit enter.

c. Select “Hardware and Sound” from the Troubleshooter Window.

d. Select “Hardware and Devices” under Devices option.

e. Follow the On Screen instructions.
