Windows 10: I keep having issues with "diagnostic policy service" not allowing me to start it.

Running Windows 10I've tried several options.I've tried running it from command prompt, as admin.I've run the "Services" from command line as admin.I've tried following other similar problems and the posts they have, but keep getting errors.Seems like this and many other issues when I uninstalled Mcaffee AV. Even Microsoft Store will not run now. I know I need to format and re-install per ASUS and Microsoft techs I've spoken with. Still a matter of time and getting all data backed up

The Diagnostic Policy Service is not running

Hi,

To resolve this issue, launch the command prompt as Admin and enter
these:

• Type " net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice " then press Enter.
• Type " net localgroup Administrators /add localservice " then press Enter.

Also, we need to make sure that the following services are started.

1. Press Windows key
+ R.

2. On the dialog box, type services.msc

3. Under Services (Local)
list, find the services: Diagnostic policy, Diagnostic Service, Diagnostic system host.

4. Check the status of the services is started or not.

5. If the services are not started, you can
Right Click a status and Start a service.

6. Restart your computer.

Based on what you typed and with some further research into the service, I was able to dig in and fix the issue. Here are the steps I followed for any future people that have a similar problem.

Diagnostic policy was running constantly indicating there was something it was diagnosing and all the provided troubleshooters in the windows settings came back ok except the Windows Update one.

1. I uninstalled all previous updates and reinstalled them
   
2. After restarting my computer, I ended the Service Host Diagnostic Policy in the Task manager
   
3. I went to Services and verified the service was stopped
   
4. Navigated to the SRUDB.dat file and deleted it
   
5. Restarted computer and verified that the service is now running again
   

These are the steps I took. Originally deleting the dat file did nothing, but after reinstalling all my windows updates, deleting it did the trick.

Diagnostics Policy Service starts and then shuts down

Whether the troubleshooter attempts to start it or I do, the Diagnostics Policy Service will start, run for a couple seconds, then give the error : "the diagnostic policy services on local machine started and then stopped. some services stop automatically
if they're not in use by other programs."

The reason I ran into the issue is because my PC can connect to the internet via a new wifi USB stick that I bought, but will no longer connect via a direct ethernet cable to my router, saying "Unidentified Network - No Internet".

I have checked and changed permissions for firewall policy etc, restarted several times, and am out of ideas. I would like to avoid a system restore if at all possible.
