  1. I keep hearing a chime sound in Windows 11, with NO CLUE as to the cause

Today I started hearing a repetitive "chime" sound on Windows 11... with no indication at all as to why the chime was sounding.I never had this problem in Windows 10.After some rather EXTENSIVE tracking that no end user should have to go through I discovered it was a new device attached via USB. Removed it, and the chiming stopped. The question here is: why wasn't Windows 11 able to track this down and give me some kind of reason or source information for that constant, nagging, annoying alarm? I have seen this exact same report repeatedly on these boards. The answer is all the same: d

  2. Chiming type sound.

I am using Windows 10 (on an HP Stream.), and every so often I hear this chiming sound. This only occurs when I am using Microsoft Edge.

I did go to Control Panel | Sound, and on the Sounds tab, go to each Program

Event in turn and click the Test button to listen to it. A few things make the sound I hear.

Any clues as to what this is, and how I can disable it?

  3. Annoying chime that wont go away. Windows 11

    Dear Merciless Ways,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

Thank you for reaching out with your issue regarding the recurring chime sound on your Windows 11 system. I can understand how persistent sounds like that could be distracting, and I'm here to help you resolve this problem.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshooting and potentially resolving the unexpected chime sound you're experiencing:

    1. Check Notification Settings: First, let’s ensure this isn’t a notification sound from an app or system alert. Go to 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Notifications' and review which apps have permission to send notifications. Temporarily turn off notifications to see if the chime stops.
    2. Sound Schemes: Check your sound scheme settings. Sometimes, system sounds can be triggered by various events. Go to 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Sound' > 'Advanced sound options' > 'Sound control panel' on the right side under 'Related Settings'. Then go to the 'Sounds' tab and browse through the Program Events list to see if a particular sound is set to play at regular intervals.
    3. Device Connection Sounds: If the chime occurs every few minutes, it might be related to hardware connections. Check if it happens when a device is connected or disconnected. You can test this by unplugging peripherals one by one to identify if a specific device is causing the sound.
    4. Update Drivers and Windows: Please go to the hardware manufacturer's website to download the latest adapted driver and install it.
    5. Event Viewer: Use the Event Viewer to check for any recurring events that coincide with the chimes. Open Event Viewer by searching for it in the Start Menu and look under 'Windows Logs' > 'System' to see if there are any warnings, errors, or informational events that occur just before the chime sounds.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, consider doing a clean boot to see if any third-party software might be causing the problem. I recommend trying a clean boot which starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It can be used to determine whether a background service or program is interfering or causing a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step.

I hope one of these solutions resolves the chime sound on your system. If the problem persists, or you need further assistance, feel free to return here for additional guidance.
