Microsoft Authenticator won't restore accounts

To better determine your problem, you can first try the following steps.

1. Ensure both devices are using the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator from the Google Play Store.
   
2. Check your Microsoft Account settings to confirm that the backup feature is indeed enabled for your Authenticator app.
   
3. Try the backup and restore process again:
   
   • On the original device (Device A), open the Microsoft Authenticator app and go to Settings > Backup.
     
   • Make sure the backup is enabled and wait for it to complete if necessary.
     
   • On the second device (Device B), install Microsoft Authenticator and sign in with the same Microsoft Account used on the first device.
     
   • During the setup process on Device B, select the option to restore from backup and follow the prompts.
     
4. If the restore still fails, try signing out of the app on both devices and then sign in again on the second device (Device B) to see if it triggers the backup restore process.
   
5. Make sure there's a stable internet connection on both devices during the backup and restore process.
   

Regarding the lack of data export options in the app, some authenticator apps don't provide this feature. To mitigate the risk of losing access to your 2FA accounts, consider the following precautions:

• When setting up new 2FA accounts, note down the QR codes or secret keys provided during setup. Store this information securely (e.g., in a password manager or encrypted file) so you can manually re-add the accounts if needed.
  
• For existing accounts, if possible, disable and re-enable 2FA temporarily to obtain the QR codes or secret keys for backup purposes.
  
• Consider using an alternative authenticator app that offers data export/import functionality, or consider using a hardware-based authenticator (like YubiKey) as a backup option.

Microsoft Authenticator app - lost Twitter account

I recently got a new phone and made back up before switching phones. Once i backed up from my icloud to my new phone i downloaded the microsoft authenticator app and my twitter account was not there anymore. However, when i go to log in to twitter it still
asks me for a verification code even though my twitter account isnt linked to the authenticator app anymore. In order to add my account back to the app i require a secret key or too scan a QR code which i also dont have access to alongside the back up code
which i no longer have as i cant use my old phone and i had luckily done a back up previously. Can anyone help please as i havent been able to access my twitter account for over a week now and have had nothing back from twitter support.

 

Upgraded to new iPhone and lost every account (dozens) in my authenticator app. Really need help...

Not specifically windows accounts, every type of account that I've ever added 2FA to is what I'm trying to recover. Accounts like Discord, Twitter, Facebook, Banking, Credit Card Apps - everything that I tried to keep secure by enabling 2FA then putting
them on my Microsoft Authenticator App is what I'm trying to get back. The App is already installed on my new phone, from restoring my new phone from my old phones backup, as I normally do when getting a new phone. The difference this time is that upon opening
the "Microsoft Authenticator" app, there are 0 accounts listed there.

This means that when I go to open twitter for example, it says "enter your authenticator code", I can't login because when I go to my authenticator to retrieve my code, there is nothing there. I can't turn off the requirement for Twitter to ask me my code,
because I can't login to disable the authenticator features on twitter. Let me know if that's not clear enough.
