Windows 10: I lost my whole desktop of 120 GB of Data!

I lost my whole desktop of 120 GB of Data! One drive was apparently backing up my desktop, but there was not enough space. I never wanted anything that I had saved to the computer to be saved to the cloud. I was compiling, consolidating, deleting unwanted things. and cleaning up the history of my entire life 40 years of data. it frose so much that I asked it not to back up to one drive, and instead of doing that, everything was deleted! I looked at the "where did my files go?'" amd there was only 51GB of files on the one drive. I just want to use a computer and save data to THAT compute

Well, I'm sorry to hear that it's a WD My Passport that failed on you, @tomhenry ! *Frown
I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

 

Need to delete 120 gb of Temporary files

But its so small ,,, the temp files are 120 GB
