Windows 10: I may have fixed the hp stream not updating windows, or not having enough space.

I finally did it, i got windows to boot off an external drive from the hp stream, the process was a bit different then i am used to, but it works.

here are the steps i took.

Step one: copy the main drive you have to an external ssd/hdd.

Step 2: after coping your windows installation, restart the pc and enter bios by pressing f10.

Step 3: in the bios, find the boot options, and enable legacy mode or legacy supprt.

step 4: press f10 and save & exit. then keep the pc turned off.

Step 5: turn the pc back on, and keep pressing f9, this will bring you to the other boot options menu.

select the usb option, should say something like "usb 3.0 external drive" or something like that.

for me it was at the bottom, move your selection to it by using f5. and hit enter.

Step 6: now you pc should boot to that drive, it may go through the proccess of repairing the drive, but that should take too long.

now the hp stream will boot to that drive.

note: you will have to keep selecting the external drive in the f9 boot options.

this is also a good idea because you will keep all your windows settings, accounts, and files without having to reset your pc, good thing also is, you could theoretically use the built in storage as a second storage if you want to, but i'd advise not doing that, as it would be better if you used it incase the external drive fails.

i was able to copy my main pc to an external hdd by doing this, and use that same data on the hp stream.

but if you do that, you might have to reset the hp stream after, because using another pcs data could lead to faulty/not working drivers, so i would adise resetting windows after that if you want to, as you could then move most items to a usb.

HP stream laptop that cannot be updated to windows 10 enough space

I cannot free up enough space on my HP stream to complete updates I have attached an external hard drive and still cannot free up enough space any suggestions?

 

Lack of Storage Space and the HP Stream

Hi!

I have a relatively new HP Stream. It is driving me crazy. Windows wants to update, but it can't because there's not enough storage space. I've done everything I know to free up space, including following the directions, obtaining "help" and purchasing a flash
drive. Nothing works!! I am very frustrated. Anyone out there have any suggestions? Am I missing something?

Ran out of disk space on HP Stream

I need more disk space on my HP Stream to update windows 10, i save all documents to a usb drive and deleted from Stream, still says i need more disk space to update windows 10, HELP.

I have optimized the disk and tried everything imaginable, even reset to factory settings and reinstalled Windows 10
