Windows 10: I need an email client that stores emails as .eml

I have a mailstore full of twenty years' worth of emails. My current email client is Windows Live Mail, which sporadically crashes my system and forces a restart. I've been using Windows Live Mail because it stores each email as its own .eml file, so my offsite backup (Carbonite) only generates internet traffic to backup new emails. This is especially important with metered connections. If my folders of emails were combined into single files, as with many email clients, I would be backing up massive files even when only one new email was added. I tried Thunderbird, but when importing very large folders, it would integrate only a couple hundred emails and call it a day. No error message, just a sorely incomplete transfer. I considered the defunct Outlook Express, but I have read that it will disappear any time there's an automatic Windows update.


Does anybody know another Windows 10-compatible email program that, by default, stores emails as individual files, and so would cause only tiny backup traffic?

Hi Jorge, you really should clarify your response - if this was "Hotmail behavior", it would also happen when using Hotmail in the browser, which it doesn't. Many email clients can't read eml attachments, some corporate accounts refuse to deliver eml attachments
for security reasons, and even when they're delivered and readable most people hate the break in conversation flow of delivering a conversation as an attachment (evidenced by the fact that no other mail client does this non-optionally). How is this not considered
a bug in WP7 mail-handling?

Outlook and Thunderbird are the best here however they crash sometimes and load your PC way too much.

You can actually forget about any rules and break down all emails by sender - just switch to the 'By sender' mode.
