How do I remove someone from a family group who can't be removed? Instructions given on help article don't work.

Hi there, I'm John D, and I am an independent advisor.

I'm sorry to hear that you're facing difficulty removing your son from your family group. I can understand how frustrating it can be when the instructions given in the help article don't work, and you're unable to achieve what you want.

I'd suggest you try the following steps to remove your son and yourself from the family group:

    > Double-check the age of your son: Make sure your son's age is set correctly on his device. If he's under the statutory age, you'll need to give consent for him to leave the group.

    > Verify your account settings: Ensure that your account settings allow you to remove members from your family group. If you're not sure, try logging in from a different device or browser and see if you're able to remove your son.

I hope these suggestions help you in removing your son and yourself from the family group.

    Regards,

    John D.

  3. I need assistance moving a child to a new family group.

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

To resolve this issue and move your son's account to the new family group, follow these steps:

    1. Remove Your Son from the Old Family Group: Since your wife cannot manage the old family group after leaving it, you need to ensure she has left the old family group properly and is no longer associated with it. It might be necessary to rejoin the old family group temporarily to remove your son's account. Here’s how you can do that:
      • Have your wife rejoin the old family group (if she can).
      • Once she’s back in the old family group, she can remove your son from that group.
      • After removing your son, she can leave the old family group again.
    2. Invite Your Son to the New Family Group: After successfully removing your son from the old family group, you can now invite him to join your new family group. Here’s how:
      • Go to the Microsoft Family Safety website: Microsoft Family Safety.
      • Sign in with your Microsoft account.
      • Select “Add a family member” and enter your son's email address.
      • Your son will receive an invitation email. He needs to accept this invitation to join your family group.
    3. Check and Confirm:
      • Ensure that your son accepts the invitation.
      • Once he accepts, check the family group settings to confirm that he is now a member of your new family group.
If your wife cannot rejoin the old family group or if there are any issues with the above steps, you might need to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance. They can help manage family group memberships and resolve any lingering issues with account associations.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Best regards

I need help, I am not able to remove my son from the family group

Can't add my son to my family group

    Hello Martin, this is Emily.

Because your son is 8 years old, he won't be able to leave the family group by himself. When you log into his account and go to the Family section, can you tell who is the organizer? Only that organizer can remove your son from the group. In fact, that organizer has to remove the consent first, then remove your son's account, all needs to be done in organizer's account.
