Windows 10: I need help in demystifying loss of password for win 10 local account after trying to fix...

Hi : I am working on a family computer with little sleep now. Like mine, it has had auto login and no prompt for password after wake state for a decade.The original issue is that after an update march 15 on a feature update from last July ... computer booted up to the purple screen saying find out what's new,But when clicked, a message that recycle bin was corrupted ... with a yes or no prompt that did nothing. frozen screen.After a few power downs and prayer ... was actually able to click on the no button and get into the system. ran sfc /scannow and it did find and fix corrupti

Local Account password changed to Online Account Password

Hi,

I suggest you to follow the steps on how to switch from Microsoft account to Local account:

• Click on search in taskbar and type account.
• Click on Accounts.
• Now, under Your account, click on Sign in with Local account instead.
• Enter your Microsoft account password for confirmation and then follow the screen instruction.
• Enter User name credentials for your the Local account and click OK.
• Now, login to Local account.

Locked Out of Admin Account

1. Are you using a Microsoft account or a local account?
   
2. Which version of Windows 10 you are using currently?
   
3. Is the other user account an admin account?
   

I suggest you to try using the on screen keyboard at the login page and check if you are able to login to the PC.

1. At the login screen click on the
   ease of access icon at the bottom right hand corner.
   
2. Click on the on screen keyboard to open it.
   
3. Type the password and try to login.
   

If you are using a Microsoft account, I suggest you to refer the article on

how to reset your Microsoft account password.



However, if you are using a local account, then I suggest you to refer the article on

reset your Windows 10 local account password.



Note: While performing these steps, there might be a risk of data loss. You may take a backup of the data before performing the steps.

Local user account with no need for password

Yes, you can set up a local account with a blank password during the 'Out of Box Experience' (OoBE) initial set up. See Step 24 in this tutorial.
