Windows 10: I need help reenabling the reagentc after resizing the recovery partition.

So I tried to follow the process of resizing the recovery partition for the KB5028997 update, when I went to reenable reagent it gave me the error message:REAGENTC.EXE: The Windows RE image was not found.I initially thought it was being caused by a missing winre.wim file. Failure to apply update due to recovery partition issue?

My suggestion would be to:

1) Disable WinRE

2) Delete partitions 4 and 5.

3) Extend the C drive to utilize the unallocated space (minus 750 MB)

4) Create a Recovery partition in that 750 MB unallocated space.

Step 1:

To disable WinRE, run:

• reagentc /disable
  

Next, check if winre.wim has been moved to the c:\windows\system32\Recovery folder. To do so, run:

• dir c:\windows\system32\Recovery /a
  

Please post the outputs.

 

Resizing the Recovery partition

There is a small issue with the order that you are suggesting doing things in. Running reagentc /disable will only disable recovery environment in the existing and running Windows 10/11. Then you suggest restoring the previous Windows 10/11 from a backup image. That backup image will still have the recovery environment set to a specific partition because you never ran reagentc /disable on it. That is similar to changing my background desktop photo. I can change it now on the Windows 10/11 installed, but if I restore a previous image, my desktop background photo is going to revert back to what I had saved in the image.

You are correct. You would have to run reagentc /disable, then backup C drive. Easier to just disable, then use minitool or similar to delete partitions an recover space.
