Devices Disappear from File Explorer Network When Another Device Commects to LAN

    Scenario:

When only Desktop and NAS are connected to LAN (each via ethernet):

    1) In Left Pane of File Explorer (FE) on Desktop under Network, both are listed

    2) In Right Pane of FE on Desktop under Computer, both are listed; under
    Storage, NAS is listed

When Laptop is connected to LAN (wireless or ethernet) at the same time as Desktop and NAS:

    1) In Left Pane of FE on Desktop under Network,
    only Laptop is listed

    2) In Right Pane of FE on Desktop under Computer,
only Laptop is listed; under Storage, NAS is listed

    3) In Left Pane of FE on Laptop under
Network, all three devices are listed

    4) In Right Pane of FE on Laptop under
Computer, all three devices are listed; under Storage, NAS is listed

    Why is this happening?

On Desktop, all of the suggested changes to some pertinent services' Start status (e.g., Function Discovery Provider Host and Peer Networking Grouping) and SMB settings have been made. Please note that these services have
not been changed on the Laptop. One or two of the pertinent services are set to
Manual start on the Laptop, and one of these services is not even running on the Laptop, yet all of the devices appear in both panes of the Laptop's FE!

    Thanks for your assistance.

  3. 2 computers linked to 1 monitor

This is not a normal 2 computers to 1 monitor scenario.

    I have 2 computers, 1 running Win11 and the other on Win10.

What I want to do is have the Win11 device extend an image to the monitor(screen 2) and have the Win10 device running Zoom share that image from the monitor.

Is this possible as using KVM's and swapping monitor sources would prevent the Win10 device seeing the Win11 image?

    Hope this makes sense.

    Network 2 and NAS drives

    Hi AA45,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

It sounds like your Windows denies access to NAS drives after replacing the router. Sorry to hear this. It can be that the NAS did not (or cannot) obtain the IP assigned by the router. Kindly try the solutions below:

    • Temporarily assign a PC the address 192.168.3.38, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Directly connect the PC to the NAS (run an ethernet cable between them, with no switch or router in between). You can then access the NAS by entering http://**.**.**/admin. Once there, reset the address of the NAS to DHCP.
    • If you still have the old router, connect the NAS and a PC to it (no need to connect it to the internet). Then you can access the NAS as before. Reset the address to DHCP, then re-cable to use the new router.

Feel free to reach back if you need further assistance.
