I need help with my idea of separating OS from installed programs for easier future formatting

    Hello to all

I'm currently using Windows 10 Pro version 1909 latest version 64bit. Whenever there's a new Windows 10 version available, I do not like upgrading/updating into it. I like formatting my desktop and install it all clean and fresh. Now, that happens every few months when a new Windows version is available. It always works perfectly and a formatted and clean PC is always better, in my opinion. My problem though is that formatting my PC means I have to start from scratch and install ALL my PC programs/apps from the beginning, which takes time and when you do it every few months, it's pretty tiring.

Therefore, I have an idea for future Windows version upgrades, but I'm not sure whether it is or isn't safe/okay/recommended/good to do so, so I decided to ask you guys here. My idea is simple: instead of having my hard drive partitioned only into C drive for OS + programs and D drive for documents, I'll format my C drive and partition it into 2 partitions: C drive for OS ONLY, D drive for programs installations ONLY and the existing documents partition D drive will be changed to E drive. So I'll have 3 partitions: C, D and E. In such a case, C drive will be only for OS Windows so that every time I want to upgrade Windows version, I'll easily format only C drive, install the new Windows version and that's it.. All my PC programs and apps will stay intact on D drive and will NOT be formatted/removed, as they're on a separated partition than where Windows is, and all the programs' data won't be effected either, as I'd only format the OS drive partition C drive and the programs data that's on D drive with the programs themselves will just stay there intact....

    My questions are:

1 Is it a good idea?

2 Will all programs run and work smoothly this way or programs MUST be on the SAME drive partition as the OS in order to work/integrate smoothly??

3 If programs must be installed on the same drive partition as the OS- is there any other alternative/thing to do to make my idea happen to format and upgrade OS without losing installed programs and/or their data such as a system mirror backup or something?

I'd like to be instructed on these matters.

Thanks a lot in advance for any help.

    Jamie.

    :)

Should I partition my new SSD to separate OS from programs and data?

I have a new SSD on which I will install Win 10 Home.

Is it advisable to separate the OS and the apps/programs/data into 2 separate partitions on the SSD after win 10 is installed?
Would doing this cause problems with installing and using programs, games etc?

I ask because I wonder if it would make it easier to do fresh re-installs of windows if that was necessary in the future.

    Install Diablo 3 on Linux

Just install PlayOnLinux? Why did they make step 2 and 3 of this "tutorial"?

Anyway, looking at the supported software list for PlayOnLinux, D3 is a step in the right direction. Lack of gaming is a factor for a lot of people when deciding on an OS, if more recent games get ported it may help migrate them to their preferred choice.
