Windows 10: I need help with removing the Wacatac H!ml

I sadly fell for an illegitimate captcha. As a result, I got alerted by windows defender that wacatac h!ml severe was found on my PC but that it was quarantined. This was October 19, 2024.As it was quarantined, I located the files that windows said was infected and then deleted the file/s. Fast forward to October 26, 2024, a multitude of my accounts have now been hacked. I did a quick scan with Defender and found nothing. I then installed Bitdefender and also found nothing. I installed Malwarebytes and found 12 PUP files which have now already been dealt with.Since I am still paranoid I rece

Can Wacatac h ml infect other partitions?

Hi.

One day, I was downloading books in pdf compressed in rar files from a telegram group. Windows Defender didn't detect anything yet even if the suspicious file (a rar file) was already downloaded until I started to copy that rar file into an external disk. Then Windows Defender alerted me about Wacatac h ml but I didn't let it to quarantine it since it takes too long to remove a file so I deleted it myself (the rar file) permanently.After that I ran a full scan in every partition if it finds anything else but it didn't find anything. I restarted my pc and I ran a full scan again the next day and once again the next week and nothing found. But I'm still paranoid about it: if that wacatac h ml can "infect" other files like: pictures, documents, music, videos in other partitions (especially my external disk where I save my data) rather than the main partition where windows OS resides with its system files. I didn't find enough info. about how this trojan performs in detail: only it infects windows files and hide in directories in the main partition but nothing about if it can hide in other partitions. I've already deleted all my executables from other partitions and re-installed my windows OS just in case and after that I ran a full scan again the other partitions and nothing found. In the other hand, It's my curiosity about windows defender: It didn't detect it right away after I downloaded the rar file, only it triggered when I copied that rar file to another place. And the irony is Windows Defender could detect a PUA instantly from my external disk when I just opened a directory where I store exe files but it didn't do the same thing with that suspicious file (wacatac h ml) even if I opened the directory where that file resides. Could it be a false positive?

Trojan Script Wacatac B!ml

Hi,

I am using Windows 11.I went to a hotel website , trying to make a reservation , after entering the dates, pressed check availability or check rates , A red screen came up , with a virus warning, Windows defender detected it. I quarantine it and said Detected : Trojan Script Wacatac B!ml, severe.

I used Windows defender to remove the trojan and now the status showed : a threat or app was Removed from this device.

based on this information, can I assume that this trojan is gone forever, or it's still hiding somewhere.
