Windows 10: I need help with transferring files from my laptop to my phone via usb.

I need to transfer some files from my pc to my phone. the phone I am using is a Huawei p30 lite and I have a windows 11 laptop. whenever I connect the USB it opens the photos software and show the same message every time; "please update your device's settings to accept media transfers". what do I do to fix it?

USB Transfer to Laptop

Hello Judy,

I suggest you to copy all the files to a flash drive from the laptop.
You may create a new folder on your desktop and name that folder as per your choice.

  Perform the steps to transfer the files from laptop to desktop.
  
• 
  Plug in the flash drive and wait for it to get detected.
  
• 
  Now, open the flash drive and Right Click on the files that you want to transfer and select “Copy”.
  
• 
  Now, open the folder on desktop and Right Click on an empty space in the folder and select “Paste”.
  
• 
  Similarly, you can transfer all other files.
  

As per the file size you can also use an external drive instead of a flash drive and transfer the data.

can't transfer files between laptop and phone over BT

To transfer files from the phone to the laptop you must first set up the laptop so it is waiting to receive files. In Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices:

1. Turn on Bluetooth
2. Click on 'Send or receive files via Bluetooth'
3. Click 'Receive files'

When you send a file to the laptop it then ask you to choose where to save it.

Cable to transfer files

OMG. I have never met anyone who actually bought one of those file transfer things.



Firewire will do the same as USB, but faster, so will a cheap crossover cable. I can wlak you through the steps of moving data so you will not miss a beat.




Anything more than $10 to buy a cable is too much.
