Windows 10: I need to change my primary email in order to access a security code

Hello All Can anyone help. please I have been asked to verify my email by microsoft in order that I can access a security code. Problem:- I no longer am on the virgin media email address I was when I set up with microsoft. I am now on btinternet as I had to change provider 2 years ago I have tried to change it online with microsoft. It tells me I wont be able to access this until 11th July 30 days!! Is this usual. Please can someone tell me how I can have microsoft speed this up? Is there a link someone can reply with ?Many thanks in advance for any advice Kind RegardsSuzanne

Changing administrator email address

1) How do you access the Windows computer? Do you use Microsoft account or local account?

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

• 
  Open PC settings, and click/tap on Accounts on the left side.
  
• 
  Click/tap on your account on the right side, click/tap on the More account settings online link at the top of the right side.
  
• 
  If this PC or device is not a trusted device, then you will be prompted to enter and submit a security code sent to your phone or alternate email address.
  
• 
  In Internet Explorer, or your default web browser, click/tap on the Add or change aliases link under Account aliases.
  
• 
  Click/tap on Rename under your (primary alias).
  
• 
  Click/tap on Yes, rename my primary alias.
  
• 
  Sign in to your Microsoft account with your new email address and password. You can close the web browser when finished.
  
• 
  To Create a New Email Address to Use as your Primary Alias
  

• • 
    Select (dot) Create a new email address as your primary alias.
    
  • 
    Select if you want a new hotmail.com, live.com, or outlook.com address.
    
  • 
    Type in a name you want, click/tap on Rename primary alias
    

9. Click/tap on OK.

Cannot restore W10 phone backup asking for security code

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I managed to access my backup after receiving a call with a code ! Wasn't expecting it so missed the first one. I also received texts but couldn't get to them whilst back up process in progress. No option to use email offered.

I do have a correct primary email address listed under Account aliases, and two other aliases however under the sign in preferences the primary one is greyed out. I have unmarked the other aliases.

I am having a few problems now setting up 2 step verification. Just received a push code to access my mail box but 2 step verification is disabled ? according to security page although the authenticator has my microsoft account listed. Confused.

Update: 2 Step is now registering as on on security page., also presume the email address is greyed out because my preference is SMS with phone number perhaps best to use email as preference ? Actually think it is greyed out as cannot opt out (uncheck) primary
email address ??

 

Can't change primary email.

I added a new email to my alias list and verified it and i keep changing it to the primary alias and it is doing nothing.
