Windows 10: I only want my pc to sleep when I lock it.

Discus and support I only want my pc to sleep when I lock it. in Windows 10 Gaming to solve the problem; Before recently resetting my P.C. with a fresh install of windows 10 it would never go to sleep or the display would not shut off that's the way I want...     I only want my pc to sleep when I lock it.


    Before recently resetting my P.C. with a fresh install of windows 10 it would never go to sleep or the display would not shut off that's the way I want it.I do want it to sleep when I lock it though. If I set sleep to never and display to never it will not go to sleep when locked. How can I fix this?

    Lock screen not working on sleep

    Hi Polly,

    To be able to lock your screen while on Sleep mode, you can follow these steps:

    • Press the Windows key.
    • Type Sign in and hit
      Enter.
    • Select the option When PC wakes up from sleep under Require Sign-in.

    PC Build Steps

    Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval
    • Install system in case
      • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
    • Turn on PC
    • setup HDD
    • run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
      • run realtemp at the same time
    • While in Prime95 test
      • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
      • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
      • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!
    What do you guys think??

    It sounds like your PC doesn't enter into sleep or lock screen after a predetermined time. Sorry to hear this.

    1. While system sleep and monitor sleep are two different things, it is possible that an app blocking your system from sleeping is also blocking your monitor from going to sleep. To find out which app is blocking sleep, follow this step.
      • Open Command Prompt with admin rights.
      • Run this command: powercfg /requests.
      • The list of apps that the command returns are blocking the system from sleeping.
    2. Remove all external devices.
    3. Restore your system to a system restore point if you've created before when your system works well.
