I powered down turned off my PC and when turned on it wants a password for my Local Account

I sincerely hope someone can help. I am running Windows 10. I powered down turned off my PC for several days. When I turned the PC back on, the login screen displays with my Local Account login ID and is asking for a password. The account I use to access my PC is a Local Account, so there is no password.I put the I-beam in the Password box and press Enter. I get message “Password is Incorrect. Try again” I click OK and the Password Box reappears with a Password Hint: “White things in the Sky”. I have never entered this Hint! So, I enter “clouds”, but the incorrect password message is again

    :)

Remove PIN/Password Lock Screen by turning the account Local

    You are welcome Peter.

If you have already turn off the Windows hello, you can skip step 1 and continue with the rest.

Yes, Microsoft account and local account are two different types of Windows user. If you are not sure, go to Settings >Accounts > Your info, does it list your email address there? If so, you are using a Microsoft account. In this case, for step 3, in the pop up, you want to make sure your username is your entire email address, and password is for your Microsoft account.

If it is a local user, all you need is just your username (not the email format) and the password for the pop up.

  3. turning of passwords

    Hello Mark,

To turn off the password requirement on your Windows 10 PC, you can switch to a local account. Here are the steps to do so:

    1. Click on the Windows icon and then the Settings icon.
    2. Click on Accounts and then on Sign in with a local account instead.
    3. Enter your existing password and click OK.
    4. Enter your local username and leave the password fields empty.
    5. Click on Next and then on Sign out and finish.
Alternatively, you can disable the password requirement by unchecking the “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer” option in netplwiz. Here are the steps to do so:

    1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    2. Type “netplwiz” and click OK.
    3. Uncheck the box next to “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer”.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Enter your username and password and click OK.
Please note that disabling the password requirement may pose a security risk. If you decide to proceed, make sure to take other security measures to protect your device and data.

    Hope this helps,
