Windows 10: I Purchased A Windows 10 Professional Retail License Key & It Will Not Work After Hardware...

I have a Win 10 Pro Retail key that is not working after I changed hardware. I do not have it active on any other computer at the moment. I tried the steps outlined in the Troubleshoot process inside the Activation window within Settings. The error code I get 0x803FA067 states that either the key is not usable, or that it was used in the process of upgrading to Win 10 free. Both of these are untrue since they key was working before hardware changes, and I did not do an upgrade this was a purchase of a full Win 10 license originally... please let me know what I can do to rectify this.Thank

Using Windows 10 Professional Product key to Windows 8.1 Professional

You have to buy windows 8.1 Pro.

The Windows 10 key is only for Windows 10.

There is Downgrade Rights but you don't qualify for it as you bought Windows 10 Pro yourself and they only apply to OEM preinstalled Windows 10 OEM licenses (Dell, HP, etc)

Microsoft no longer sells any edition of Windows 8.1.

Warning:

You do not buy a Product Key by itself, as they are normally stolen/pirated, Volume Licenses which are not for private use, or MSDN keys which are not to be sold by the original subscription holder.

Make sure that you buy the complete sealed package (DVD, license)

Windows 10 Retail License Key not Working

From your discussion it seems like the key used was not a retail key Josh.

There is also a bug in windows that shows OEM licenses as retail license after it has been reinstalled earlier. This leads to a lot of confusion and the only way to be sure is to know how the license was purchased.

How to swap license keys between two computers?

Configuration

1. Computer A was OEM Windows 8 Home free upgraded to Windows 10 Home
   
2. Computer B has Windows 10 Professional purchased.
   

My understanding is there's no problem transferring purchased Windows license key on another computer;

Can I use another computer's OEM Windows 8 license ( upgraded to Windows 10) for computer B ?
