Windows 10: I recently did an update - and now none of my documents open

I recently did the updates - 2024-04 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 KB5036620 and 2024-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems KB5036893 - and after that, I can't open any of my Microsoft excel/word or notepad documents. If I attempt to open the documents, I get the following error message - The data is invalid. I don't have a restore point so I have no recovery points. Is there any way to fix or undo this?

Re-enabling recent documents

An update with auto-patcher disabled the recent documents under start menu in windows Xp. Any way to get it back?
Also how can I set it to show only recently viewed text documents.

 

Office 365 - removing recent documents

You would need to go to the app that was used for that document and remove it from the recent documents list within the app. For example if a Word document shows up in the list and you want to remove it; open Word and then in the recent documents list within Word right click on the entry you want to remove and select Remove from list.

Windows 10 stores recent document lists in many places, it depends on the different application as to where that list is stored

What application are you trying to find recent documents for?

Also, in the meantime, open Windows File Explorer, on the left, click 'Quick Access' do you see the document(s) you are looking for listed there?
