Windows 10: I recently got a security update for Windows 11, now none of my games work. How do I fix this?

The Security update was installed on jan 12th. I tried four different games, none could even make it to the main menu. I reinstalled every game and verified files, no luck sadly. I went into my performance settings and edited my virtual memory to the recommended amount, didn't work. I repaired my game library folder and cleared my download cache, still nothing worked. I did have some luck by uninstalling the update but after a day everything went back to crashing on launch. I also tried going into the command prompt and running a scan, the scan did find some corrupted files and repair them but

DirectX suddenly not working after quick update 21/11/2017

Hi Daren,

DirectX 11 or 12 is already included in Windows 10 via Windows update. Therefore, you should already have the latest version of it. For us to further isolate the issue, we would like to ask for a screenshot of the recent update that was installed.
You can check it by following the steps below:

• Open Settings.
• Click Update & security.
• Choose View installed update history under Windows update.

In the meantime, we suggest updating the games that are not working for it to be compatible to the newly updated system. If the issue persists, kindly uninstall the game and reinstall it back if possible. (Only uninstall it, If you'll not lose any data/information
of the game.)

Ah.
Probably the issue I had with windows media format runtime security update for WMP 9.5 & 11 downloading but not installing.

I fixed it by typing something into the command prompt which I think reset the update.

 

Steam games recent list does not update

The recently used program list for the Steam computer game client never updates. It says recent but it misses actual recent games that I've played and lists games that I haven't touched for months or years. How can I investigate the reason for this list not updating? It works just fine for other programs on the Start Menu. I tried searching for information but the word "update" in the search string returns results about Steam and Windows updates and not about the recent list updating.
