Windows 10: I reinstalled windows and now my hard drive does not show my files when I look for them

Discus and support I reinstalled windows and now my hard drive does not show my files when I look for them in Windows 10 Ask Insider to solve the problem; I had to reinstall windows because it corrupted when I updated and now my hard drive shows that my files are taking space but I can only see the files...     I reinstalled windows and now my hard drive does not show my files when I look for them


    I had to reinstall windows because it corrupted when I updated and now my hard drive shows that my files are taking space but I can only see the files if I go to my drive and look through it. Cortana does not show them. now I cannot find any of my games or game launchers such as battle net. also when I tried to put some desktop icons of apps like discord the icon will not show and it is just a white page but it does open. can someone help.

    Stored files in Hard Drive

    You can use Windows search. Just search for *.* on a desired drive. When list is done just arrange them by size LOL.

    You can do it via command line as well and make an output text file showing files and their sizes (but without arrangement)

    Windowed Hard Drives

    On the contrary, showing off "slow tech" by adding a window to a hard drive is a "dumb" idea. Do you really want to be showing off a whole "7200-10000 RPM of power" or would you rather show off a plain SSD drive? (If you really desire to "show off")

    Adding any window to any drive is just stupid. I just suggested an easier option for you since manufactures don't put windows on the latest hard drives.

    Hi Lori,

    Thank you for posting back.

    • How are you connecting the Hard drive to your computer?
    • Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a different computer and check if it works?

    It's possible that your USB drivers are corrupt. I suggest you to try the following steps and check.

    • Press Windows Key +R and type
      devmgmt.msc       to open Device manager.
    • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
      at the left bottom.
    • Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click on
      Uninstall to remove it.
    • Repeat these steps for the entire USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    • Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.

    Keep us posted with the status of the issue to assist you further.
