Windows 10: I seem to have a problem with windows updates, pleas read!

Greetings,

When I initially power on my PC, and open settings it tells me there is an update in progress. Seen here:

when I click where it says "windows update" it takes me to the "Updates&Security" page in settings, and all seems normal, when I click check for updates it says there is no update and everything is up to date. Seen here:

This happens every time I turn on my PC. It then will say I'm up to date until I restart my computer and it will say updates in progress again, this has been happening for well over two weeks.(I built my Computer about then it is brand new)

Sometimes, it will start an update(something about windows security) but it won't get past 0% and it will simply disappear, this has happened a few times.

I ran the troubleshooter on the "windows update" and this is what came back under detailed info:

I ran services.msc in winrun and located "BITS" and is in fact set to manual and not automatic, windows update is set to "automatic triggered)

MY QUESTIONS:

1. Is BITS( Background Intelligent Transfer Service) indeed supposed to be set to auto? If so, why is it not already?
2. Is what I'm reading into here that I found in the troubleshooter and that microsoft forum indeed related to my issue?
3. how do I fix this?
4. final question, I have heard before that sometimes windows updates and BIOS have something to do with each other and sometimes you have to update BIOS in order for windows to work properly, is this true? There is a newer version of BIOS available on my MOBO manufacturer's website (ASUS) but I've also heard updating BIOS can be bad.

Windows 10 1709 System Restore problems...

That seems to be an attempt at Option 2 in the tutorial, which requires you to
a. Boot to a command prompt (Did you?)
b. You then seem to be mixing steps 3,4 and 5, thus your command is incorrect.

I suggest Option 1 is easier.

If you still have problems, please repost listing each specific step and saying which option from the tutorial you are using. Thanks.

 

How do I change (Read Only) on Microsoft Word


When I downloaded Windows 10 and used my Microsoft Word it was in (Read Only) and I tried looking up how to solve the problem including looking at properties on my document to uncheck read only, but it was already unchecked. I have tried all the steps suggested.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
