I shared a directory in local network, but creating a shortcut to this location on second...

Hello,in the local network I have a "server laptop" to which I have plugged in external hard disk. On this disk I have a folder that I want to have access from any other computer in the local network. I clicked in the properties to share the file, it has a path, i.e.: \\server\sharedDirThe policy is that only user that have a local account on "server" can have access to it.When I am trying to create a shortcut on the other PC path: \\server\shareDir, the tool display error, that the file cannot be found. What can I do?I would like that after clicking the shortcut it will ask for the credenti

Groove Music fails to scan network locations for music

I setup Groove Music and added a network location to the libraries where I store all my purchased music files. I have a total of three locations that Groove should scanning. The network share is on a WHS2011 with Read, Write and execute permissions.

    Music (Default Location)

    Music (C:\Users\UserName\oneDrive

    Music (L: \\WHS2011)

Groove picks up music in the local Music folder and on OneDrive but will not pick it up form the share.

    • I have verified that the share is accessible and all rights are being applied properly
    • I have verified and reentered my network credentials.
    • I have added the share via IP and Friendly.
    • I have created a directory link via MKLINK in the root of "C:" that pointed to the network share then added it to the library.
    • I have created a directory link via MKLINK to the share form within the local Music folder
    • I have mapped the share then added it to the library.
    • I have reset Groove Music
    • I have ensured windows is up to date
    • I have ensured that local music is being scanned and added to Groove Music
    • I do not have any events related to the issue
    • I have added a network share form a different device with the same results
Anything that I am missing or is this just a bug?

    UPDATE:

    • Ran a clean boot to no avail
    • Ran SFC and found no issues
    • Tried adding a network location then added it to the Library to no avail as well
    • Set the Shared location as Default save location as well as Public save location

    Add a Network Location

Have you tried connecting to your shares by creating a link using that Add a Network Location from the menu on
This PC page. That will add an individual share and it appears as a shortcut on C:\ . It's a PITA to add many shares using that method but at least you've got a connection .

Warning Please edit you post and remove the email address. It is never a good idea to post your email or street address, phone number or other personal informatiom. It can (and often will!) be misused and lead to serious complications.

Regardless if you are signing in to Windows using a local account, Microsoft account or workplace Azure AD account, in networking your username is your user profile name, not the email address.

For instance, I sign in to Windows with a Microsoft account L: [email protected]_Imaginary_Email_Provider.com, but in all networking purposes my user name to access shares on this machine is just , or using the long form \\ComputerName\.

Second, you don't need to grant read and write access separately. Granting full access rights takes care of both.

In screenshot I created a folder on my H: drive, naming it ShareDemo, then shared it granting myself full access:

Checking the folder properties I can see everything is as expected, I will have full access rights to this shared folder:
