Windows 10: I sign in on my PC but it says user profile service failed sign-in.

Hello!When I sign in to my PC it goes to the black screen with my cursor My first issue. I've tried reinstalling Windows, but like 80% of the way, it said undoing changes for no reason. I've also tried safe mode but it goes to a white screen. Now when I sign in it says "The User Profile Service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded". Any help is appreciated! Please let me know if I need to provide more info on my problem.

Hello,

When attempting to login to my computer, I get the following message:

"The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in.

User profile cannot be loaded."

I referred to this Help article,You receive a "The User Profile Service failed the logon” error
message,

but the only difference is I only have one user profile on this computer. So, I can't login with another user to go through the steps listed in this post.

Any suggestions?

Can you check your registry? Make sure your profile doesn't have a .bak to it. If it does delete the .bak and if you have a temp profile add it to that. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Hi there,

I have an Asus Prime Z270-A motherboard, I had an M.2 SSD connected to the M.2_2 slot and a HDD connected to SATA6G_1 slot.

The SSD contained Windows OS and was my C: drive and the HDD contained my Users data and was D: drive.

I installed a new M.2 SSD into the additional M.2_1 slot running in SATA mode.

When I booted into Windows my profile picture wasn't there and I received the message:

"
The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in

User profile cannot be loaded.
"

Which at first I found was because the SATA slot SATA6G_1 gets disabled when using my SSD arrangement. I disconnected the new SSD and all worked fine again. I moved the HDD to a different SATA connection and installed the new SSD, but I got the same problem. This time when disconnecting the the new SSD the error continued.

When I go into windows repair and command prompt, run diskpart it had mixed my drive letters up, which I guessed would be the issue as it is no longer finding the User files in D: ?

I reassigned the drive letters in diskpart but when booting into windows they must reassign themselves as going back into diskpart shows them incorrect again.

I have also tried re-assigning drive letters in AOMEI Partition Assistant, but same happens.

I figured my only option would be to load regedit and change the path for my User files?

Before doing this I looked on the internet to try some solutions, for one of them I ran:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd

I think fixmbr ran but the others said couldn't find windows installations.

Please remember my computer still boots into windows (log in screen) but just can't find users profile location.

Back in diskpart I couldn't set any of the partitions on my SSD to active, so looking on the internet it mentioned about partitions being hidden, I had one hidden Volume 1 (ESP) so I ran attrib clear hidden. Since doing these I don't seem to be able to get all my troubleshooting options from holding shift when clicking the power button on the log in screen now. So I have to boot from a Windows USB to get to this now...

I followed a guide for bootrec - attrib C:\bootbcd -h -r -s but get the message C:\boot not found.

I've been going round in circles.

AOMEI Partition Assistant actually shows some of the partitions as boot, but doesn't show my SSD as MBR it's GPT. Not sure if this is a problem as again it still loads windows...

If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciate, in command prompt browsing directories on both drives, everything seems to be there. So I'm hoping it's still just the drive letters resetting themselves. I've attached photos of some of the screens.
