Windows 10: I suddenly have many duplicate photos with same name

I suddenly have many duplicate photos with same exact name and I am afraid if I manually delete them THOUSANDS!, the next time I restart the computer, both will be gone. Is this possible? I can't afford to lose these.

One possible reason of the duplication of your photos is a malware infection. In order for us to verify whether this issue is really caused by malware, we recommend that you use

Windows Defender Offline. After the scan, try deleting the duplicates again and see if it will return. If the deleted photos will still return, please answer the following questions:

• When the files get deleted, can you see them in Recycle Bin?
• What is the version of your Windows 10? Follow these steps to check the Windows 10 version: Press
  Windows key + R, type "winver" and hit
  Enter.
• Are you using OneDrive?

Ultimate duplicate photo finder

Finding duplicate images is extremely hard . . .

It depends an the criteria the software uses to find duplicates, file name, file size, meta data, pixel to pixel comparison, visual similarity . . . etc.

So the questions I would ask of the software developer are:

• what criteria is that software using to compare images
• can you change the comparison criteria with that software

Ultimate Duplicate Photo Finder not being able to find duplicates is not a Windows issue, rather an issue with the software you are using, namely Ultimate
Duplicate Photo Finder!

 

Removing duplicate photos from Microsoft Photos

Deleting photos from Microsoft Photos will delete the files from the original location. However, Microsoft Photos will only display the photos from the folders that are added to Photos application. You can remove the folders from Microsoft Photos that
you don’t want. Follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Microsoft Photos app.
   
2. Click on the Ellipsis on the top right corner of the window and click on
   Settings.
   
3. Under Sources, remove the folder that has duplicate photos by clicking on
   X.
   

To remove the duplicate photos from the computer, please navigate to the location where the photos are saved and then you can delete the photos are duplicate.
