Windows 10: I unlinked One Drive. Now my folders have a red X on them. I cannot print any doc in them....

I unlinked One Drive ... I did not want to auto-sync to the drive. I keep getting messages that there is no room in the One Drive, but I have less than. .1 GB in storage and it says 0% used, when I checked it ... I cannot relink the one drive, there seems to be a missing link, etc. I have docs in several folders that I would like to print out but this one drive seems to have locked up those files, as well as the printer itself. I did print from a new printer I bought specifically for this PC, and now it will not work either. what the what???>?????

The red "X" icon that shows on your network drives indicates that your network devices are not connected. To effectively assist you with your concern, we'd like to ask the following:

HDDs icons with big red X

Rebuilding the icon cache was the first thing I tried. Actually, I did that before starting this thread. I also tried SFC /scannow and DISM — both TNA. Even Icaros didn't fix it.

As to the OneDrive suggestion, unfortunately it made things worse.

First I unlinked my PC from OneDrive. Before I restarted the system I checked the desktop and found that the icons changed and showed the apps and folder icons with some sort of system default overlay.

Then I restarted the system and the issue was still there.

But now I have the executables shortcuts icons shown on the desktop as a blank icon. The exception is the IrfanView shortcut icon, which, like the other icons, shows a sort of blank overlay (it seems to be related to the arrow overlay). PDF files and internet shortcuts also show that. Images and files shortcuts icons (like TXT) are normal.

The taskbar too shows a blank icon for most shortcuts.

This new thing can be seen elsewhere on the system, but with some details. When Explorer is set to show Small icons, List, and Details, those new issues appear. The other viewing options show the icons normally.

Well, I guess the problem is with icons only, not related to HDDs and stuff.

I apologise if it seemed that I may not have understood. Usually when all files are truly up-to-date and the Red x remains unlinking from OneDrive and then re-linking to OneDrive will resolve the Red x
