  3. backup using Win 10 Settings -> backup Win 10 doesn't recognize my external drive connected to a USB

    Hi Ksdozier,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand the inconvenience you are facing currently. Let me help you in resolving the issue.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

    • Have you tried using a different USB port to connect the external hard drive?
    • Do you get any error message or error code on the screen?
As of now, I suggest you to remove the Flash Drive, then restart your PC. Now plug in back the Flash Drive then try to initiate the Backup process to see if it detect the drive. While removing the Flash drive ensure to Turn
off the Back up and eject it safely.

If the problem still persist, then you need to try this by formatting the USB flash drive completely. Before you do that, copy all files from USB drive to some other location. Formatting a drive will erase all its content.

Hope the information helps. Keep us posted on Windows related queries and we will be happy to assist you further.

    Backup using file history

    Thanks Robeline

I was going by other advice and articles that suggest that backing up under Update and security/backup is now the way to go. I will try your suggestion.
