  2. TPM update

Don't know if this is the right place for this thread but whatever, laptop informed me that " a firmware update is needed for you security processor (TPM)," now, i looked up what to do and from a microsoft support thing, the last step says to clear the tpm. it has a warning saying to back up my data, i would like to know what clearing the tpm does, and what measures i need to take to make sure nothing goes wrong.

Need help on whether to clear TPM on not

It's clear as mud. As far as I can tell, it's specific to Windows, not necessarily activated programs like MacAfee, games, etc etc etc. MS Office, I have no idea.

    Here's a lengthy doc on it: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...initialize-and-configure-ownership-of-the-tpm

TPM vs Bitlocker. This device cannot use TPM. Is my TPM or isn't compatible with Windows 10/11 ?

UPDATE Your Guide to Using BitLocker Encryption on Windows 10 The section "Troubleshooting BitLocker Setup" suggests that "If you receive the following error when trying to set up BitLocker, it likely means your computer does not support the Trusted Platform Module". Below explanation why it is not full story... So, I reencrypted my drives connected to the same PC. The results are as follow: 1. Windows 11 22H2 on internal drive was encrypted (bitlocker) with TPM 2. Windows 10 22H2 on external drive cannot be encrypted (bitlocker) with TPM, again the same message is generated: **'This device cannot use a Trusted Platform Module. "Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM" option in the "Require additional authentication at start-up" policy for OS volumes.'** My conclusions: 1. TPM works correctly on my PC 2. TPM cannot be used with external drive or Windows 10 22H2. It means that message **"This device cannot use a Trusted Platform Module"** does not point what is the reason of the issue. "This device" means on "This PC" or on "This drive" ? For sure on this PC can be used (example point 1).

The question is: cannot the TPM be used with external drives ?
