My laptop has Windows 10 OS. Initially, I had a 2TB HDD. I transferred my OS to a Samsung SSD using Samsung data migration. My laptop is working fine without any problem. But connecting my old HDD using a SATA cable is asking me to format it and showing RAW in disk management. I have essential project documents that I can't afford to lose. I watched many videos but couldn't find any solution to this. Please anyone/any professional, suggest some way to recover all data from my HDD.Some additional information:2TD HDDUEFI/GPT-based hard drive partitionsHad 5 partitions

Your screenshots in Post #7 show conflicting information. Disk Management shows a drive with a drive letter that is partitioned and Healthy but RAW. The Minitool shot shows a disk that is Unallocated Space, no partition which is RAW. So, TestDisk could not find a Partition either. There are other RAW data recovery options like the one I suggested in Post #2 DiskGenus in my signature. There is also Easeus Data Recovery , MiniTool's data recovery among others. TestDisk is the only truly Free data recovery software. All others are free to download and scan, if they can't find anything, then you don't have to pay, but if you want to recover the data, you have to buy the app.

 

Slow HDD with many bad sectors; Data recovery  

Hi everyone, I tried to copy files using Linux as described by Paul Black. I am not used to Linux so I simply tried to copy the files on the new HDD. Some files where smoothely copied while others resulted in an error (Error splicing file: Input/output error). However, while at first I could mount the HDD this stopped now and I am not able to access the HDD via Linux anymore (it is listed but I am unable to mount it). In Windows I have limited access. After several minutes sometimes the drive can be opened but eventually freezes leading to a black screen and an unresponsive computer. Is there any other tool that I can use or can I assume all data are irretrievable lost? Best - - - Updated - - - Sorry, @jumanji I did not see your posting. Here are the required screenshots.

Here is a translation of the report: Failure possible - Attribute 1 raw read error rate. During reading of the raw data errors were detected. This suggests problems with the surface or the ´read-and-write heads of the drive. There are 577 bad sectors on the surface. These can be remapped during later use. Link HDD needs to replaced immediately. It is recommended to backup data to prevent data loss.
