I want to clone my existing SATA SSD onto my new M.2 NVME SSD, but I can't get it to boot.

I just had to upgrade my system, with a new ASUS B550-Plus motherboard, new processor, and 1TB NVME SSD.I've tried initializing the NVME drive as GPT and then cloning to it the old drive is MBR, but I'm reading something about a UEFI driver it needs to be bootable, and I don't understand how to install that on the new drive. I'd really like to keep my existing Windows 10 install intact and just move everything over without having to reinstall everything else and spend a year getting my settings back to the way I want them. Can someone help me figure out where I'm going wrong, here?

    :)

cloning sata ssd to m.2 nvme

Hi so i'm planning on building a new pc and my main storage drive on it will be an m.2 nvme and i want to clone my current pc's main sata ssd with my windows install on it to the new pc, I already know how to clone sata ssd to m.2 nvme and keep all my old files and keep windows but i'm wondering if there will be any hardware problems since my new pc will have a completely different motherboard, cpu and gpu, if there is any hardware problems is there anyway to get around it? or would i just have to install windows by itself on the new m.2 nvme and then afterward copy all the files except windows from the old ssd

When you clone SATA SSD to NVMe SSD there isn't required drivers on Windows and it will not boot, but it can be fixed by booting in safe mode. (I did this few days ago when upgrade old laptop with NMVe SSD.)

When you boot first time with that new NVMe disk it fail and you have two options how to enter safe mode.

Option 1) Let it fail until it attempt to automatic repair and when you see this screen select Advanced repair options to enter repair environment.

Option 2) When OS start boot and you see those spinning dots push power button to force power off, on third boot it will open repair environment.

When you are in repair environment follow these instructions to boot in safe mode.

PCIe SSD not booting after cloning from SATA SSD/HDD | Crucial.com

This will install correct NVMe driver and boot to screen asking user name and password. At that point do not enter anything, just use power button on lower right cornet on screen to restart. Now it should boot normal mode and you can sign-in.

Clone present nvme pcie ssd to replacement nvme pcie ssd?

I have a 500GB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe SSD (boot drive) that I want to replace with a higher capacity M.2 card.

Where do I put the new SSD during the NVMe to NVMe cloning process? My mobo only has one M.2 slot for NVMe SSD's so do I want to use an external adapter for one of the M.2 cards? If so, do you have a recommendation?

If you have solved this issue for your desktop or laptop I would like your advice on if and what extra hardware you needed during the cloning.

please remember that I am dealing with PCIe NVMe drives ONLY. NO Sata is involved except possibly for a connecting cable from the desktop to an adapter. I am experienced with cloning SATA III drives but cloning NVMe is a little
    new to me.

Computer: Dell XPS 8920, 32GB ram.

Present SSD: KXG50ZNV512G NVMe Toshiba 512GB

New SSD: CT13049074 Crucial P1 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD 1TB (or 2TB if available soon) or similar storage device.
