Windows 10: I want to combine my D drive with my C drive as my C drive is running out of space.

My C and D drive are both on the same SSD, and I'm trying to delete my D drive partition so I can allocate it all the C drive. I cannot delete the D drive as the option doesn't appear. I feel like the problem seems to be the "Windowsapps" folder that is in the D drive, which I can't delete nor move and I'm not sure if I should do that as it seems important.

Combining C and D drives

Alice, are you having any specific issues related to having two drives/partitions? For various reasons it is actually recommended to have a separate partition for your data, instead of having just a single one for both your data and Windows.

If you really want to combine them regardless you will need to obtain the help of someone knowledgable, otherwise you run the risk of losing all your existing data too.

As for your lost desktop icons/files/folders, it's difficult to suggest anything without knowing what exactly the technician did. They may simply have been moved somewhere temporarily, and perhaps the technician forgot to put them back. Or they may have
been deleted, in which case you'll have to use data recovery software but there's no guarantee you'll recover everything. But first, any way you can ask the technician to list all the changes made to your system?

 

Unallocated Space to C Drive

Hi Travis,

It appears that a disk partition was created but was never assigned its allocation. Assuming there are no files stored in the unallocated partition, perform these steps to combine it with your C: drive:

• In Disk Management, right-click on (C which appears next to the
  Unallocated partition.
  
• Select Extend.

Let us know if you're able to combine the spaces after following the steps above.
