  1. I want to have nothing other than my computer booted to ready-to-use

My double-up didn't start until I'd done the netplwiz many times in an attempt to defeat login requirements.

Not only did that not work, but now I suddenly have two accounts showing up in the bottom left; neither were required until W10 did that on its own - after, of course, doing a stealth upgrade about a month ago, from W8.1

I want to have nothing other than my computer booted to ready-to-use when I power up, or return from sleep (close lid) or any other action.

Is there a simple way to back out of all this junk Windoze has forced on me? (I am not yet ready to revert to 8.1, but I'm getting close!)?

    :)

RE : return from sleep (close lid)

    Have you tried this ?
In the search box next to the Start button > type power options > Enter
Left side, click Require a password on wake-up > click at " Change settings that are currently unavailable " > scroll down to Password protection upon wake up > either you
dot ( click at ) the "Require a password", or
dot ( click at ) the "Don't require a password"
    > click Save changes.

RE : booted to ready-to-use when I power up

For that, you need to use the nelplwiz option. I know you did that before and you claimed you ended up with mess. But that is the way to sign in automatically.

  6. I seem to have solved the login-on-awake - but not the double identity in the lower left corner nor log-in on the start.

When I do netplwiz I have two potential accounts. One is labeled administrators and the other is labeled home users; administrators. Both have the same email address...

In both cases, I've found the box empty, ticked it, entered my password twice, apply, then untick. One says I cannot alter the PW but in neither case do I - it's the same one I have to use (now) to log in.

    Any help knowing that?

the 'home users; administrators' one says I cannot change the password; attempting to delete it (the other is administrators, which would be me) that one tells me - which makes me a bit nervous; recall the other says only 'administrators' ...

    Please don't do anything yet.

    Hello skip,

Please post a screenshot showing them listed in netplwiz to see what may be going on. Remember to blur out the first part of your email address so it's not posted in the public.

  12. That seemed to do the trick - a reboot came up with no requirement for login.

    So...

    Sequence:

    1) Use the Leo link to get down to one account.
    2) Use the netplwiz or password link to tick, apply passwords twice, then untick 'must sign in'
    3) OK out of #2
    4) Successful reboot

How I got to two logins is beyond this simple peasant; I don't really care other than it cost me a full day of mucking around with it in an environment where my SO is angered by every minute I spend on the computer :/

    Thanks to all who participated...
