Running your Browser in a VM?

    • Install VMware Player or Virtualbox, VMware being faster in my experience
    • Create a VM with sufficent RAM HD and all CPU cores
    • Install Ubuntu/Linux Mint/Debian or some lightweight distro with Xcfe or LXDE
    • Install VMware/Virtualbox tools
    • Almost any distro comes with Firefox
    • Install Ublock Origin/Noscript/Ghostery
    • Disable cookies with a whitelist/use private browsing.
In my experience, running a browser through a VM can slow down scrolling smoothness, video playback and increase ping delay

Local app to VM running on local machine.

I have a laptop running an Allstarlink node in a Hyper-V virtual machine using Hyper-V's external switch. I would like to have a local laptop application, iaxRpt, connect to this VM and connect to the software running in it.

i.e. Laptop running Hyper-V VM. VM running Allstarlink (app). App on laptop outside of VM running iaxRpt connecting to Allstarlink in VM. This works as long as I am connecting from a 2nd Windows machine but not with both on the internal. Connecting from laptop Edge to Allstarlink in VM works fine. I can ping the VM ip address from anywhere.

Allstarlink, iaxRpt are both setup properly as they connect to other nodes/machines not on the same network as the laptop.

    Anyone with any suggestions.

    Tony...

Running your Browser in a VM?

Topic reads, running your browser in a vm? Besides running a noscript, im sure they'r ways to hold FB, tracking cookies at bay, at least to a point with inside a VM, maybe in a VM & Ramdisk?
