Storage device missing or disconnected for 2 games and unable to reinstall games on D or F drive.

It did eventually let me install to my F or B drive after waiting a few hours and still worked when I used the computer the next day (after turning it off). Unfortunately it has stopped working again with the missing or disconnected storage device error again.

Is there another way to fixing this issue to the one you described? I do not have enough storage to move my B drive to my F drive and I don't think this error is all to do with the state of the drives as I am allowed to install anything on those drives with other store apps such as Steam and Epic Games. If only I knew this was going to happen I would have bought the games on Steam instead haha. Also I scanned the F drive for errors and done a system scan of the drives and everything seemed fine.

Edit: just after writing this post it has given me the option to reinstall the game on the F drive again. It seems that if I wait an unspecified amount of time it just suddenly works... The only thing I did was click reinstall then cancel that after it tried reinstalling on the C drive about 15 minutes ago.

Storage device missing or disconnected for 2 games and unable to reinstall games on D or F drive.

Every time I launch my computer and run either Sea of Thieves or Microsoft Flight Simulator (installed on my B and F drive, respectively), I get the storage device missing or disconnected error. I have tried resetting and reinstalling however it usually only gives me the option to reinstall on the C drive (which is too small to install onto), with the B and F drive not appearing in the drop down when selecting installation location on the Microsoft store.

Also I have tried changing where apps are installed in the settings but it doesn't allow me to change this setting (B drive only comes up as an option and endlessly loads if I select it). All my drives are online too but my F drive does not appear in the storage settings. I've only had issues on the Microsoft store and have not had an issue on other stores such as Steam or Epic Games Store. The Xbox app allows me to install these games onto any drive from the Xbox app however the download doesn't work at all and is stuck (preparing 0%).

Is it okay to download a steam game with my D: drive?

    Hi Schmeat,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

The settings in the Settings app for new content only affect Microsoft Store apps and games.

If you are a Steam Gamer, that is way more customizable than most gaming platforms.

You can move the folder that contains your Steam Games, then go into Steam Settings and move the reference to the Steam Game folder and Steam will see all the games you have installed on the D drive.

Here are the steps provided on the Steam Gamer Community to move your Steam games to the D drive.
