I want Windows 10 Sign-in Screen to show which users are signed in

    Hi, everyone...

I'm trying to find a registry hack or something to address the change Microsoft made going from Windows 8.x to Windows 10.

Here is a quick run-down of what Microsoft changed:

My wife and I have 4 children. One of our PCs is used by all of the children. There are 5 Microsoft accounts set up on that PC, one for each of the children plus one that I have set up as the Admin account.

Windows 8.x indicated on the Sign-in Screen which users were already logged/signed in. So, if the Sign-in Screen was displayed, you could see right there if anyone was signed into their account. For example, if 2 of the 5 accounts on our PC were already signed in, then right there on the Sign-in Screen below the picture and name of those 2 users that are already signed in, it says "Signed in" for each of those 2 users. You know right there at the Sign-in Screen if anyone is already signed in that might need to sign out before a restart or shutdown.

Windows 10 removed this information/indication. If you are already signed into an account, then you can look and see which users (if any) are signed in and there is no guesswork needed. However, if you are at the Sign-in Screen and want to restart or shutdown the PC while one or more users are signed in, then you are told users are signed in but have no idea which users are signed in. The only way to know which users are signed in is to sign into one of the accounts and find out.

I am looking for a registry hack, group policy, or some simple program/application that will turn on the ability to have (or force) the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607) Sign-in Screen to indicate which, if any, users are already signed in like Windows 8.x's Sign-in Screen did. That information/indication on the Sign-in Screen was quite helpful.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    :)

How to show the signed-in users on the sign-in screen in windows 10?

    Hi,

I have upgraded my personal HOME PCs from either 7 or 8.1 to windows 10 Pro.

Before the upgrade, on the login screen, you had a list of the existing accounts and some wording telling which ones were already signed-in or locked.

On Windows 10, no way. I see all the login names but there is no clue of who is signed-in.

I know that you can log in and then use the task manager to see who is signed-in but this is not the point.

The point is to make it simple.

The point if you decide to run a VPN to your work or other, that it will not sabotage your currently running email software connecting to some accounts detecting that are connected from an unusual place and either sending email (Google) or just locking you
    out (hotmail).

Why did Microsoft modified something which worked perfectly?

Where is the setting to restore the previous behavior?

I have googled for a while, looked at the registry, looked at the group policy. Nothing.

A few people posted the question elsewhere but no one came with an answer.

    Any help appreciated.

Bad move from Microsoft. Please fix it.

    Thanks

    Olivier

I want Windows 10 Sign-in Screen to show which users are signed in

Windows 10 changes a lot. To see currently logged on users, you can click on the Start button, click your user icon on the top left side of the Start Menu. It will display all signed in users in the list.

Thank you for trying to help, but as stated in my post, "If you are already signed into an account, then you can look and see which users (if any) are signed in and there is no guesswork needed." This can be done as you described or (I think) through the Users tab in Task Manager.

The problem is knowing which users are signed in when you are at the Sign-in Screen. Windows 8.x used to say below a user's picture and name "Signed in". Windows 10 does not. If a signed in user Locks their account or if the PC is put/goes to Sleep or Hibernation and then you come along and want to restart or shutdown from the Sign-in Screen. In that case, Windows 10 tells you other users are signed in, but you have no way of knowing which users are signed in without first signing into one of the accounts.
