I Want Windows 10 To Never Install Anything From Outside Of The Store

I just remembered something. There was a version of Windows that was "locked" to Windows Store only but was discontinued and never made it this far. The OP probably missed it and didn't know it existed before (or maybe there are still some surviving units in the MS Customer Returns warehouse and one of then use to be mine). The Windows RT.

So I guess, the OP can cross this out from his wishlist or just get a Windows Phone.

You do know that installing programs and apps is not the only way to infect a computer?

I agree with @Winuser If I want a Mac OS experience then I'll use a Mac. I want to use Windows as it was meant to be and not to meet the needs of some/one of the users. Like I said,, if the users you're helping out are having issues with malware then it's up to you to educate them on how to avoid the problem and not up to the rest of us to help prevent that.

Wipe out Windows from their PC and give them Linux. I am sure there's no way they can install anything on it.

  5. On a tablet fine, Android/iOS can do this, Windows can also do this as the default for tablets, as long as I can turn it off

Desktop is completely different, these apps that install the added software (makes them money), what are they going to do if it goes in the store, start charging for it?

Mac OS adding the store was one of my big reasons for leaving OS, I want to install/run a program as the developer intended, not have it restricted by what the store owner wants

on mac OS you still can go to the setting and enable the ability to install apps from anywhere.

the monetization issue can be solved with ads and charging for an ad free version (the adware way was not repectful of the user , since most of them don't read and just click next)

again the point just over your head
    also it's very childish replay

we both know what is windows value add , and is that value add is not compromise by making the OS safer.

True, if the developer provides both options, unfortunately that is not always the case, so for some apps that I had I could only update from the store, meant the feature set was crippled because they had to abide by Apple store policies

I would rather people got shown how to install things and read what they are doing instead of apps turning into paid or ad supported

No.. totally no. Tools like Python are open source and thus FREE. And charges for the use of the product would violate the basic agreement that exist in the usage of Python and countless other Open Source projects/products...

The other issue is what happens to any open source projects that have to move to the store.. would they remain free?? They would have to ..

yes , I already mentioned that but I guess it also went over your head.

you do know that installing apps is a very popular way of getting adware , malware , viruses and even ransomware

remember the whole ransomware thing last year ? yeah that would not be possible if windows was like mac OS and was locked to the store by default.

it's amazing how you stick your head in the sand and pretend that this stuff is not windows biggest problem .

Again.. no. If you need to educate the users you support more and don't force anyone else to adjust to meet the needs you have.

it's okey for open source projects to charge money (or put ads , or sell users information like Ubuntu )

No, it's not. You don't understand what projects like Python and others are about. They are free and don't charge for their usage or put adds to support them. Putting any charge for them in any form would violate the basic tenet of Open Source.

you're very close there , yes I want the safety and stability of Windows RT , the ability to run win32 and .net apps from full windows , and the ability to optionally install apps from any source like Android

so you mix those 3 and you get Windows 10 that that have an app store full of win32 and .net apps , that is locked to the store by default and that have the ability to toggle something in the settings to install apps from any source .
