Windows 10: i was updating my windows and it has update 23h2 KB5036893 but it was failing several times...

few days ago i was updating my laptop and this update came for 23h2 KB5036893 but it was failing several times even after retrying. it was showing error 0x80070002. on task manager when the download starts, windows module installer works but after some times it fails. what should i do ?

Uninstall updates:



KB5036035 (April 10)

35th is not in the "installed" list but available for uninstall. So weird...

 

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time

Windows Update: KB5036893 Error: 0x800f0991

Running 23H2 Build 22631.3007 and trying to install update KB5036893.

I keep getting install error 0x800f0991 multiple times. I have tried multiple times on multiple days to do this. Then I found possible solutions which I list below:

Attempt 1:

Saw a fix for 0x800f0991 on this site and tried it , no luck with:

sfc /scannow
Dism /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup

The sfc did clean up errors, after I restarted PC and trried installing update again, failed again.

Attempt 2:

Then checked if Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer Services are running, YES.

Ran the Troubleshooter for Windows Update, said it fixed some registry keys. Rebooted.

Tried again. Failed update.

Attempt 3:

Downloaded the update from the microsoft update catalog:

[table][tr][td][/td][td]2024-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5036893)[/td][/tr][/table]

Ran the downloaded file. Failed again.

Attempt 4:

Then I tried cleaning the software distribution folder by stopping: wuauserv, bits

Deleteing all files in: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

Then restarted wuauserv, bits

Tried reinstalling update again, again it failed.

Attempt 5:

Ran disk cleanup, ran update, failed.

Please help as this is getting very frustrating.
