  1. iaStorA.sys BSOD + antivirus conflict?

After the major build (1511) update I've been experiencing recurring BSOD of the kind IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
I run WhoCrashed that says it's a driver problem (iaStorA.sys). I followed the instructions of a previous post here on the forum (uninstalling all Intel rapid storage software and then uninstall the drivers), but still have the same issue.
Someone also mentioned about RAID in the BIOS, but I have not clear how to check it on my laptop.

In addition, whenever I restart the computer, I receive various notifications stating that all computer protections are down, and that my antivirus (McAfee) is off. Oddly enough, if I click on one of these notifications a windows pops out where it says that Windows Defender is activated (while I set it off by default) and my antivirus is not (while it should).
I had already reinstalled McAfee after switching from 8.1 to 10, and did not experience any issue until the 1511 build...

    I have a laptop DELL Inspiron 17R 5737 (2013), Windows 10 Home 64-bit

    Thank you for any help,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, there is still a problem. Here's the latest:

    1. I updated the driver for iaStorA.sys from the Intel site. The driver now has a Driver Date of 2/3/2016 and a version number 14.10.0.1016.

    2. I got two more BSOD's. The minidumps have been uploaded in onedrive in folder BSOD-2, here is the link: OneDrive

    3. After I got the latest BSOD, I run driver verifier on iastora.sys. The verifier did not report any issue and the system booted normally.

I see the windbg suspects iastora.sys, but there must be something else going on. May be better luck this time? Thanks again.

The RAID part only counts for those who have a desktop and configured a RAID setup.

Please reinstall the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers from Dell, the drivers need updating

Would be a good idea to also check other drivers for updates *Smile

  5. Thank you very much for your reply! I have already checked with the dell utility (and also by manual install) that the version on the website is the one I have currently installed *Huh

Would you suggest looking for an updated version directly on the Intel website?

The version hasn't changed since the last update a few months ago hence the reason why I said reinstall.
Please reinstall Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

NOTE: the data in the picture is for Windows 8.1 because Dell detected my system, but it is mostly correct including the dates.

  7. I tried to reinstall the original driver but I got the same BSOD after just a few minutes. I found out then that there were two other drivers that could replace the problematic one, and I tried to install one of those (Intel(R) 8 Series SATA AHCI Controller - 9C03).

After one week I did not experience any more crashes nor other problems.
If no other problems will appear in the next days I will mark this post as solved.

Just another possible solution if the above doesn't work. I've been struggling with my system after installing a new SSD (crucial) resulting in a couple of weeks with the iaStorA.sys blue screen of death almost every reboot, or after a couple of minutes.

After data scraping the internet I tried the above, backed up my data and then hit the Intel website. It says to use the motherboard updates to obtain drivers suited to my motherboard before using generic Intel drivers. However, my back was against the wall, so I downloaded the Intel system driver checker tool, ran it and it came up with a new IRST driver (and a driver for the graphics chip, which I don't use).

It downloaded the new driver, installed it and rebooted. That was 4 weeks ago and the system, which had become sluggish when it was new, now runs like it should with a couple of SSDs at the helm!

So my additional advice is to back up your data (if you can) then run the Intel Driver tool to check for updates. What's the worst that could happen if your system is already borked?

    Good luck out there *Smile
