Windows Defender is blocking too much saying it viruses

Hi Sam,

Based on the screenshot that you've provided, Controlled Folder Access is turned on, blocking most apps that you're using. We suggest that you turn it off to allow blocked apps in Windows Defender. Follow the steps below:

• Select Start > Settings.
• Choose Update & security > Windows Defender.
• Select Open Windows Defender Security Center.
• Select Virus & threat protection, and then choose Virus & threat protection settings.
• Under Controlled folder access, turn it on or off.
• Once done, try accessing the apps and see if you can now access them.

Microsoft Smart Screen and Windows Defender blocking ScanUtilities to install and RUN

Often during install it will download any updates automatically,

It may also be that the defender & other av have received updates to their software which is now detecting this software as a problem, you can add the installer’s exe to the exclusion list by finding it under quarantine & choosing to exclude it.

You can also try the original suggestion with the program’s installer in case that is blocked.

 

Windows Defender blocking a driver

I just installed a new hard drive plus the Windows 10 S - went to install the Touchpad driver (Dell Vostro) so I can use all the tricks on the mousepad but apparently I had to upgrade to 10 Pro to even install it.

I upgraded and downloaded the driver - now Windows Defender keeps saying "your organisation has blocked this with the App Control" something something.

I have added the pathway to the list of apps allowed but it still won't let it through.

Any suggestions please?
