iCloud Photos getting Error 5 on a new Windows 11 PC with Intel CPU

I am trying to get iCloud for Windows, installed from Microsoft Store, working on a new Windows 11 PC, but I am getting an error popup window, "Unable to create a directory for iCloud Photos. Restarting your computer might resolve the issue. Error 5".I've found some past questions in this forum regarding this particular error, but those were for Windows 10 and the working resolution was to download a different version of iCloud for Windows from elsewhere outside the Microsoft Store. It appears there isn't any other websites hosting iCloud for Windows anymore, particularly for Windows 11, so

Intel CPU not supported in Windows 11

I have Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.90 GHz and it is not listed as supported by Windows11 upgrade for Intel cpu match Windows processor requirements Windows 11 supported Intel processors Is there a way we can expect future support for these processors by Microsoft for Windows 11 upgrade? What is the time frame? After all Intel can not dump all our CPUs without extending support, losing the market by buyer confidence

  3. How do I get "Photo Options" to pop up once I open icloud for windows 10?

    Hi Don,

There are several options that you can do to troubleshoot your iCloud
issue. We suggest that you follow the steps below:

    • Uninstall and reinstall iCloud.
    • Make sure that your iCloud app is enabled to both your iOS devices and to your Windows 10 PC.
    • Open iCloud to check if the Photo Options window will pop-up.
    • If not, create a new user profile named Test and open iCloud
      from there.

Should you have questions, feel free to post them on this thread.

Intel CPU not supported in Windows 11

I see that the Intel Core i7-5500u 2.4Ghz is not supported in Windows 11. I see other Intel CPUs listed with less overall power than the i7. Does MS have any plans to expand the CPU supported list?
