    IconCache.db is missing

    Hello,

I tried to rebuild by icon cache but I can't find the file IconCache.db in C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local
    (hidden items are turned on)

The reason I'm rebuilding icon cache is because all of my icons are gone, in desktop, control panel, folders.... (all that appears are the names) and I'm thinking it's because IconCache.db is not there. I've restarted my computer and even did system restores but IconCache.db is still missing and my Icons are still messed up.

Is there any way to force windows 10 to build a new IconCache.db?

    Please Help

    :)

  2. IconCache.db missing on secondary account

Hi. I recently got a new laptop and installed Windows 10 on it. I set up my account and everything was fine, until I set up a secondary family account. On the secondary account, all icons, with a few exceptions, turned into blank spaces, while on the administrator
account they showed up okay. The name of the program/icon/shortcut/whatever was there and it worked to open the program just fine, but the icon image was missing. The Internet suggested I rebuild the icon cache, but when I tried to do that, I realized the
IconCache.db from username/app data/local was missing, so there was no file to be deleted and rebuilt in the first place.

At some point I decided to reinstall Windows because of other issues, which surprisingly solved the problem of the missing icons on the secondary account as well. However, two days ago I updated Windows to the latest (November) version and was presented
with the same problem all over again.

In the end, I solved it by copying the missing IconCache.db from the administrator account folder to the other user folder, and I've yet to see if that's a permanent solution.

It would be really nice if someone looked into this issue. I was lucky enough to still find the missing file in the admin folder, but I didn't manage to find any other solution for this on the Internet.

That's the problem... I never even deleted it. I've rebooted many times and it still isn't there.

Yes, I've seen the tutorial but like I said, the IconCache.db isn't there...

  8. IconCache.db is missing

I have been having issues with my icons as well. The shortcut arrow comes and goes and is sometimes replaced with other symbols. I've been dealing with it by refreshing the desktop but it is annoying. I too do not have a IconCache.db file located in the local folder. I do have a number on iconcache files in C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\windows folder. I don't know if that is why Windows isn't displaying them properly or if that is where Microsoft moved the .db files. See attached screen shot.
