Windows 10: Icons: 2 issues: Translucent boxes instead of shortcut arrows AND small icons in large...

I've increased the size of my icons using ctrl + mouse-scroll-wheel to 119x119 (I believe).

I've also succesfully changed the shortcut arrow to a translucent icon

( %windir%\System32\shell32.dll,-50 ).

But:

1. Some of my icons will randomly become small 48x48 sized icons inside a large 119x119 translucent box out of nowhere. Why? How do I prevent it?
2. The shortcut arrows have been replaced with a translucent box, as if related to issue 1...

What's going on?

Is there any way to get the original icons to display again after the shortcuts are moved into a folder?

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community.

Please be informed, the view of files, folders, shortcuts etc. will be set to small icons by default, due to which you will not be able to see the shortcut's icon.

I suggest you to follow these steps:

• 
  Click on View
  menu in the menu bar.
  
• 
  Select either of these options
  medium, large or extra-large icons and you will be able to see the icon of the shortcut.

Files & Folders View as medium or large Icons

To assist you better, we would suggest that you try to follow the steps below:

• Open File Explorer.
• Once you are viewing a folder, right click an empty space within the File Explorer window and select View from the dialogue menu, then choose Large or any icon you wanted to use. Alternatively, you can use the following shortcut keys on the keyboard to
  change your View settings:

• CTRL + SHIFT + 1 Extra Large
• CTRL + SHIFT + 2 Large icons
• CTRL + SHIFT + 3 Medium Icons
• CTRL + SHIFT + 4 Small Icons
• CTRL + SHIFT + 5 List
• CTRL + SHIFT + 6 Details
• CTRL + SHIFT + 7 Tiles
• CTRL + SHIFT + 8 Content

3. Once you have the view set, you can make it the default view for

every folder.

4. Click Apply, then click OK.

Blank shortcut icon GPU-Z

I know I am quite late but as I was scrolling through I saw this post which happened to one of friend too. This sometimes happens with Windows. Usually a reboot will solve the problem. However if this doesn't, try setting the icon for the shortcut(right-click pinned icon, right-click program, left-click properties, select "change icon...") or refreshing it by switching to a different icon, applying it, and then reverting back to the original icon. Remove the shortcut from the taskbar and replace it with the start menu shortcut or simply drag the .exe file to the taskbar.
