Windows 10: Icons Disapperaing from Executable Files

It doesn't.

 

I have this problem where icons from a number of my portable apps just disappeared. The problem seem to be with the path of the file, because when I rename the folder or move it to another location, it's fine.
I have these apps in a different partition than my windows installation and have shortcuts to them in the start menu. The start menu shortcuts have icons, but when I go the folder where those shortcuts are actually located, they are missing icons too.

Anybody have a disapperaing voicemail icon? I tried several attempts to remedy this with AT&T customer service, to try to setup visual voicemail, they couldn't explain it and referred me to Nokia, awaiting my smart start call. I have had to do multiple
hard resets to get icon back, when I call voicemail enter in my password then voicemail icon diasppears. Frustrating.

 

Where did my Apps go on my 5800?

I have the U.S version of the 5800 and I am having problems with some of my installed apps suddenly disappearing from my phone. OK, maybe not disapperaing completely but the icons show up in white with a red mark on the lower right hand side. If I click
on the "broken" icon, the phone does not respond. It seems like the icon no longer is associated with the app. If I reinstall the app, I get a message that it is already installed and do I want to overwrite the program. It always reinstalls without issue
but will eventually disappear again.



This has happened on apps I downloaded from various forums (apps like google maps, personal best sports trainer, photoflow) AND it has happened with apps downloaded from the offical OVI site (Flashlight, Worldmate, Journey).



Any ideas?

 

You need to unpin those from start menu since the icon is set to the path of the executable, Next re-pin back to start menu so that the correct path of the icon is set.

 

Right click the shortcut, choose Properties/Change icon, it should direct you to the app's executable folder, select the proper icon to re-apply, click Apply and OK.

 

The start menu icon is not set to the path of the executable, but the path of the shortcut to the executable.
And as I've said, the start menu icon is fine, but the icons on the shortcut and the executable itself is missing.

 

I tried that and it didn't work. And the executable file has the icon missing too. But it's visible in properties though.

Have you tried rebuilding the icon cache? There is also a regedit for max cached icons that can help. The MS default is very small and although not the same thing I had some icon corruption once I had installed a lot of stuff. Increasing its size sorted things right out

Hey, Sorry for not replying earlier.

I had already tried rebuilding icon cache which didn't help.

The other method didn't work either.

I don't think the issue is with icon cache. As I have mentioned in a previous post, if I change the path of the file by moving it somewhere else or by renaming the folder, the icons come back.

 

Are all programs like that ? I have some that keep on not displaying icon properly. like Performance Test for instance right now. It's icon is embedded in it's .exe.

 

No, only some of them.

 

Same here and that was happening loooong time, even on W7.

 

I never had this issue until I started using Win10. The problem came back even after a clean reinstallation. Everything is fine for a while, but after a few days it starts creeping up.
