Windows 10: Icons on Desktop move when saved

Discus and support Icons on Desktop move when saved in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; Hi This might seem like a trivial problem compared to some of the others on this site, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix my icon problem....     Icons on Desktop move when saved


    Hi
    This might seem like a trivial problem compared to some of the others on this site, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix my icon problem. I have icons for certain files - word and excel, that I arrange in convenient places on the desktop. If I edit these then save them, Windows moves them to different places on the desktop.

    This never used to happen on Windows 7 - any help please.

    Greg,

    I deleted IconCache but when I went to see if it worked by moving an icon on my desktop and then right clicked to refresh, the icon did not move back. It seems like there is a step missing where I need to save the positions of the icons on my desktop. Any
    other suggestions?

    Save desktop icons gettting rearraged

    Using Windows 10, my wife switches users to her log in. When I log back in all the desktop icons are rearranged. Since I have the icons where I want them and know where to find them it is very frustrating when the move. How do I keep them in place?

    As i posted on a similiar topic thread, try a small program called 'Desktop OK' -

    DesktopOK 4.16 Save and restore the desktop icon positions.

    It takes a 'snapshot' of where you place your icons and stores it - so if Windows doesn't hold them in place, you can restore the icons to the way they were when the snapshot was taken.

    Great little program - i've been using it for many a year!
