Windows 10: Icons & shortcuts missing from Win 10 laptop

I'm writing on behalf of my 93 year old aunt. She has a laptop running windows 10. It is NOT a touch screen. Don't know the build, but she is on auto updates.


Recently ALL her icons, Microsoft and personal shortcut links have disappeared off her laptop desktop. Some are also missing from the start menu.


In searching the community, it seems that there are a lot of people out there that this has happened to.


Is there a fix forthcoming? Thanks.

Blank shortcut icon GPU-Z

Sometime ago I installed the latest version of GPU-Z, started up my laptop the next day and noticed that the GPU-Z shortcut icon was white, I tried to find the icon in GPU-Z.exe but it said: "GPU-Z.exe contains no icons".
I hope I the icon will return in the next version.

 

Desktop Shortcut Icons

Hi Mik-Dav,

The desktop shortcut created for a specific website should bear the website's actual logo. With what you've experienced, there could be something wrong with how the shortcut was created.

If you've created the shortcut by selecting Create shortcut, then we suggest that you try the other way, that is by dragging the website icon that appears in the address bar to your desktop. Follow these steps:

• Using Internet Explorer, access a website.
• Once the website opens, you will see its icon in the address bar.
• Click and drag the icon on your desktop.

The website shortcut bearing its actual logo should now be saved on your desktop.

Some icons missing in W7

Why are some of my icons missing? Not just the shortcuts of those pinned in the start menu, the programs themselves lost their icons. Yet other times they re-appear.
