Windows 10: Icons/Thumbs are blank when viewing via "Open/Save" dialogues, help!

Hey guys, hoping to brainstorm some solutions here.

1) All of my icons/thumbnails, when browsing explorer via any program's "Open/Save Dialogue", are blank. This only occurs when viewing via the open/save box, and not in standard Explorer windows.

2) Icons do show as normally expected upon the first time opening the open/save dialogue, but NOT the 2nd or any subsequent times. Very strange.

3) The issue only occurs when using any of the "extra large", "large", "medium", or "tiles" views — but they do show correctly in both "details" and "list".

As you can imagine, this problem causes headaches; for example, lets say I'm doing something in Photoshop and want to import a photo — I have no way of knowing which photo I'm selecting other than by its filename.

I've tried all of the usual fixes I could think of; clearing icon cache, using the registry to look for any weird icon assignments, checked the "Folder Options" dialogue, and even used the "sfc scan now" utility in command prompt; surprisingly, the issue persists.

I'm at my wit's end here, hoping this shot in the dark could provide some needed help! I've also attached a photo.

Files & Folders View as medium or large Icons

To assist you better, we would suggest that you try to follow the steps below:

• Open File Explorer.
• Once you are viewing a folder, right click an empty space within the File Explorer window and select View from the dialogue menu, then choose Large or any icon you wanted to use. Alternatively, you can use the following shortcut keys on the keyboard to
  change your View settings:

• CTRL + SHIFT + 1 Extra Large
• CTRL + SHIFT + 2 Large icons
• CTRL + SHIFT + 3 Medium Icons
• CTRL + SHIFT + 4 Small Icons
• CTRL + SHIFT + 5 List
• CTRL + SHIFT + 6 Details
• CTRL + SHIFT + 7 Tiles
• CTRL + SHIFT + 8 Content

3. Once you have the view set, you can make it the default view for

every folder.

4. Click Apply, then click OK.

Update us on the result.

 

Force list view in the Open-Save dialog possible?

A the left, major part of the image, is shown up the Open - Save dialog that show the cursed Icons by default in Win XP SP 1.0a... I do wonder, if I can modify the comdlg32.dll somehow (or registry?) to FORCE the Open-Save dialogue to open always default with the list view, as shown in the right part of the image:





I tried hard searching on Google for the comdlg32.dll internals, but did not found anything usefull. I think that it will be something in the dialogue no. 1547 (when one have disabled the places bar, witch places it will be the no. 1552) in comdlg32.dll file:

Not what is pre-selected by them.

So, maybe I have to edit the dialog this way?

Open/Open Folder/View downloads dialogue in Edge

I have 2 machines with windows 10 installed. One is a clean install while the other is an upgrade from Windows 7. Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is the default app on both machines for a pdf file. When I download a pdf file in Edge on the clean install machine
I get a Save/Save as/Cancel dialogue in Edge. When I download the same file on the upgraded machine I get a Open/Open Folder/ View downloads dialogue in Edge. I want the clean install machine to behave like the upgraded machine and display a Open/Open Folder/
View downloads dialogue. I cannot find any information on this topic. If anyone knows how to change this behaviour it would be greatly appreciated if you could let me know what I need to do.
